Vermont Yoga and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Retreat

Wilmington, Vermont • Jul 7 - 10 2022

Hike, stretch, and roll with us!

What a decade the last couple years have been! While our tenure at Cowface studio has ended, our curiosity, evolving our yoga, and trying new things has not. One of these new things is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)!

We have paired yoga with food, surfing, golf...now we are pairing it with BJJ! While it may sound scary, yoga and BJJ are very similar: both are movement with breath, both require you to be present in the moment, and both are an amazing form of exercise. Complimenting your yoga practice with BJJ can really help work off some of the covid love handles!

So what exactly is BJJ? BJJ is a martial art and combat sport based on ground fighting and submission holds. It focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one's opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.

BJJ revolves around the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend him/herself against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using leverage and weight distribution, taking the fight to the ground and using a number of holds and submissions to defeat them.

BJJ training can be used for sport grappling and self-defense situations. Sparring, commonly referred to as "rolling" within the BJJ community, and live drilling plays a major role in training and the practitioner's development. BJJ can also be used as a method of promoting physical fitness, building character, and as a way of life.

Whether you are a first timer to either, or are advanced in both, come roll (and stretch) with us!

Want to get a feel for BJJ? Come roll with us at EvolveAll in Arlington or at Cabrera Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Hyattsville! They also offer women's only classes!
